Pet health guide
Before and during your visit
Use this page to prepare for exams and follow-up care. For scheduling or pricing, reach out through our contact page or call the clinic.
Before you arrive
1. Write down when the problem started, any diet change, and medicines or supplements you give at home. 2. For vomiting or diarrhea, note frequency and whether you saw blood. 3. For cats, use a towel-lined carrier and avoid feeding a large meal right before the drive if they get carsick. 4. For dogs, bring a leash and well-fitting collar or harness so we can move safely from car to exam room.
What to bring
Bring any pill bottles, parasite products, or food bags you want reviewed. If we asked for a stool sample, seal it in a bag and label it with your name and the pet name. If your animal is insured, bring the policy number or app login so we can help with paperwork.
Questions that help your visit
Ask about vaccine timing, dental home care, weight trends, and what signs should trigger a same-day call. If you manage livestock, ask about haul-in versus farm call options and biosecurity after travel to sales or shows.
See our full list of clinical services and meet our team before you book.
During the exam
We start with weight, temperature when needed, and a nose-to-tail look at skin, ears, teeth, heart, lungs, belly, and joints. We explain findings in plain language and outline options, including when rechecks or lab work makes sense. You can always ask us to repeat a term or show you on your pet where we are focused.
Seasonal notes for north Idaho
Winter salt and ice melt can irritate paw pads on dogs that walk on treated roads. Rinse feet after walks when products are heavy on the ground. Spring thaw brings mud and parasites back into yards, so keep stool pickup steady and stay current on the prevention plan your doctor recommends. Summer heat and smoke days mean extra water, shade, and shorter exercise for brachycephalic breeds and older animals.
